Reasearch, Research, Research

When I was auditioning for the musical High School Musical, I was really wanting to get the part of Mrs. Darbus. I mean, months before auditioning I researched everything I could find about her: where she was from, how long she had been a drama teacher, her personality etc.
I wanted to be 100% ready to audition.
After auditions were done and over with and I was cast in the role, I still continued to research her: how she walked, talked, her hand movements, everything. This paid off because I did an amazing job. People afterward kept coming up to me to congratulate me and tell me how great I was.
My advice to you, fellow actors and actresses, is to research, research, research.
